How Leadinfo detects and filters bot traffic

Leadinfo shows you which companies visit your website. To make sure your inbox doesn’t fill up with irrelevant or non-human visits, we use our own bot detection algorithm. This system analyses how companies behave on your website and automatically filters out traffic that looks like a bot or scraper. In this article, you’ll learn exactly how this works.

How our bot detection works

Our system continuously analyses how companies behave across websites. When the algorithm detects patterns that strongly resemble automated traffic, these visits are marked as suspicious. From that moment on, any future visits from that company are automatically filtered out and no longer shown in your inbox.

Signals we look for

Our algorithm checks several types of behaviour. Examples include:

  • Number of pages viewed
If a company visits an extremely high number of pages in a single day, for example dozens or even hundreds of sessions, this may indicate automated activity. A high volume of visits in a short time frame is often a sign that the visitor isn’t a real user.
  • Repeatedly viewing the same page
Some bots repeatedly load the exact same page, such as the homepage. Our system is trained to recognise this pattern.
  • Very short sessions
Visits that last only a few seconds can indicate scraping activity, where a bot quickly fetches page content without actually viewing it.

When is traffic considered a bot, and when not?

A lot of activity doesn’t automatically mean bot traffic. Some companies simply show strong interest in your website. That’s why Leadinfo always looks at multiple signals together rather than at a single indicator.

In addition, we compare behaviour across all Leadinfo inboxes. If the same company shows identical patterns across multiple customer accounts, there’s a stronger chance it is indeed a bot. In that case, the system will exclude the company automatically.

Why do I sometimes see one visit and nothing after that?

That’s expected behaviour. A first suspicious visit may still appear because our algorithm hasn’t gathered enough evidence yet. Once the system is confident, any future visits from that company are filtered out automatically and won’t show up in your inbox.

Is bot traffic included in my subscription usage?

No. Leadinfo applies a 5 percent fair-use margin. This means you can see up to 5 percent more visits than your subscription limit without paying extra. We do this to make sure that:

• you never pay for your own company visits
• bot or scraper traffic is not included
• suppliers or other irrelevant visits do not affect your usage

Your subscription costs are therefore protected from non-relevant traffic, such as bots.
